I'm Leslie and I'm reading your blog from my home in far away Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. Just as you're enjoying a warm, summer day I'm in the middle of winter here. The temperature outside today is -24 C - can you imagine that?
It's lovely to read about the Fan Tail bird - such a pretty creature!! My daughter lives in Auckland and, as it happens, I just received a notecard from her mother-in-law that has a picture of a Fan Tail on the front. How coincidental is that?
You've put some interesting facts on your page - I didn't realize that they like to eat skinks, for instance. Thank you for doing this research and sharing it on your blog!!
Do you have a favourite sea animal that's native to New Zealand? I hope you've had the chance to spend some time on a beach this summer and to perhaps see some shore birds or sea animals.
I was out for a winter hike recently and I had the thrill of seeing a Pine Marten in the woods. This is a small type of weasel that is usually very secretive in its movements so it was a real treat to see one hunting for food in the middle of the day.
I hope you're enjoying these Summer Learning Journey activities - keep up your good work. You're doing really well!
